"My fourth grade students learned about service-learning, Cesar Chavez and his values and participated in picking crops. On many levels, this was the most powerful teaching and learning experience I have had for myself and with students. It has stayed with me and I am sure with those students as well. I even used Cesar Chavez as an example/model for my students of how to write a persuasive essay. The learning went on and on."

| Service Learning |
Service Learning is designed to lead students through the process of taking action in their communities utilizing service-learning experiences to connect civic engagement to meaningful learning in the classroom. By following the powerful example Cesar himself set through his work, students will take action on local issues in their community. Service-learning allows young people to actively live out his legacy, rather than just learn about it.
